About the course

Turn your podcast into a course

The Phoenix Formula started life as a year of Creative Conversations episodes. This course shows how it became a paid six-month course: auditing the archive, shaping the lessons, getting permission, checking every quote, producing the audio and selling it on a private feed.

It's for podcasters and experts with at least 15 episodes behind them who want to do it themselves, and it shows exactly what Granary does when we make a course for a client.

Format
5 modules of narrated video lessons, about 90 minutes in all, with templates
Pace
3 to 4 weeks to finish the assignments
You'll need
A podcast back catalogue, ideally with transcripts (the course shows how to make them)
Outcomes

By the end, you'll be able to

  • Decide whether your archive can become a course, and state the change it promises in one sentence
  • Audit and tag a back catalogue by theme using transcripts
  • Map a course into lessons and episodes, with something to do at the end of every episode
  • Get written permission from guests for paid use, and track it
  • Check every quote against the transcript and disclose composite stories
  • Choose between re-cutting, re-recording and patching, and make joins nobody can hear
  • Produce one finished sample episode and workbook to a set technical standard
  • Run a waiting-list test before spending on production
  • Set up a private feed, checkout and automatic delivery
  • Write a launch email and a price you can defend

Questions

Before you ask

Is the legal part advice?

No. The last module explains how we handle immediate access and the 14-day right to cancel for UK buyers. It's an explanation of our approach, not legal advice.
