About the course

Make a podcast people finish

Granary records and produces podcasts for clients in a dedicated studio inside a 16th-century barn. This course is how we do it, cut down to what you need to make your own show at home or in a studio.

It takes you from an idea to a published pilot episode and a planned first season, in eight modules you can work through over about six weeks.

Format
8 modules of narrated video lessons, about 3 hours in all, with templates and checklists
Pace
About 2 to 3 hours a week over six weeks, including the assignments
You'll need
A computer and headphones, and a microphone by module 3 (the course helps you choose one)
Option
A recording session in the Granary Podcast Studio with an engineer, to make your pilot. Details go to the waiting list first
Outcomes

By the end, you'll be able to

  • Describe your listener and your show's promise in one sentence each
  • Choose a format, episode length and release rhythm you can keep up for a season
  • Write a running order with a cold open, segments and a clear close
  • Get clean speech from a microphone at home, at sensible levels, with a backup
  • Prepare and run an interview that produces stories, in person or with a remote guest
  • Edit an episode for structure and pace, add licensed music and master it to a podcast loudness standard
  • Publish to Apple Podcasts, Spotify and YouTube with artwork, show notes and chapters
  • Decide whether to film, and cut short vertical clips from an episode
  • Read the numbers that matter and plan a first season
  • Publish your own pilot episode
